Wire Diameter
Generally stainless steel wire mesh is woven from round wire. Wire diameter means the cross-section diameter of round wire. The mesh wire falls into weft wire and warp wire. As far as stainless steel wire mesh is concerned, wire diameter is commonly designated using millimeter (mm) and inch (“). Internationally, the common wire gauges for measuring the diameter of wire are expressed as AWG (American system), BWG ( Birmingham system) and ,SWG (British system). Please refer to the relevant wire diameter cross-reference table.
Computing Formula to Determine Percent Open Area of Stainless Steel Wire Mesh
The percent open area of stainless steel wire mesh means the ratio of the area of the openings to the total area expressed as a percentage. The area of the openings is virtually the active filtration area of stainless steel wire mesh. In terms of plain weave mesh, percent open area =〔Opening/(Opening + Wire Diameter)〕2 X100
For example, 100meshx 0.1mm, percent open area = 〔0.154/(0.154 + 0.1)〕2 X100=36.76
onversion Formulae of Wire Diameter, Opening and Mesh Count
Conversion formulae to determine various parameters in stainless steel wire mesh: 25.4/(Wire Diameter + Opening)=Mesh Count
For example, 100meshX0.1mm Wire Diameter, its opening is 25.4/100-0.1= 0.154mm.
2)In terms of stainless steel dutch wire mesh, because that warp wires differ in diameter from weft wires, and the lengthwise mesh count is also different from the widthwise mesh count, the relevant parameters need computing separately.
