Why Mesh Count and Micron Rating Is Important

What Is Mesh Count?

Mesh Count – the number of wires or openings per linear inch (25.4 mm), counted from the center of any wire to a point exactly 1 in. (25.4 mm) distant, including the fractional distance between either thereof.

For example 10 x 10 mesh has 10 holes per linear inch running across the width of the material and 10 holes per linear inch running down the length of the roll.

What Is Micron Rating?

Micron rating is best defined as the distance between two adjacent wires. This metric is used to determine the amount of open space that is not be taken up by the diameter of the wires.

By knowing the mesh count, you can feel more confident in the control you have over what does and doesn’t make it through your mesh filter. Therefore, knowing the micron rating will allow you to control flow rate and throughput, helping you create a more efficient operation.
