What is the difference between Knitted, Woven and Expanded Mesh

Knitted wire mesh is a metal or nonmetal wire strand woven into a mesh structure in very much the same way as sweaters. The process of knitting creates a mesh of interlocking loops, which move relative to each other without distorting the mesh. Because it is made of interlocking loops, it’s extremely flexible and will return to its original shape when the stress is removed if not distorted beyond its yield point.

Woven mesh can be described as a weaved structure of wire. The wire moves along a line weaving over one wire and under the next. The structure is designed to sift materials – small particles fall through while larger particles stay put.

Expanded mesh is unique in the way that it is not structured from wire like the previously mentioned meshes. Expanded metal is made from metal plate by uniformly slit and stretched, forming diamond or hexagonal opening in the metal sheet.
